What we teach for weddings (and why it matters)
Not all two-step is the same, and this actually matters for your wedding. Here's the quick breakdown:
- Texas Two-Step — The big, smooth, classic dance you picture when you imagine a Texas wedding. Quick-quick-slow-slow. Everybody's done it. Very beginner-friendly. This is what most couples want for weddings.
- Austin Honky-Tonk Two-Step — Our spicy Austin-style hybrid with more swing and spin. It's what you'll see on the dance floors at Sagebrush and the White Horse. Fun but different than what you'll want for Grandma at your reception.
- Line Dancing — No partner needed. Big crowds, big smiles. Perfect for guests who are shy about partner dancing (or just need to warm up first).
For weddings, we almost always recommend Texas Two-Step + a line dance or two. It's the combination that gets Grandma AND the groomsmen on the floor. If you're a honky-tonk regular and want the Austin style, just tell us - we'll teach whatever makes your day special.
Five ways brides hire us
1. Your First Dance
Book a private package (3-5 sessions) and we'll teach you and your partner a simple, beautiful Texas Two-Step choreographed to your song. Not a memorized routine that falls apart on the day. A real dance you'll own. Add optional spins, dips, or a dramatic twirl for the camera - whatever feels like you.
2. Rehearsal Dinner or Welcome Weekend Party
A 30-60 minute lesson at your rehearsal dinner or Thursday welcome party. We teach Texas Two-Step basics plus a line dance so your out-of-town guests arrive at Saturday's reception ready to go. This is honestly the biggest game-changer - when guests know a little something before the big night, they stay on the floor longer.
3. Reception Lesson
A quick 20-30 minute mini-lesson right at the start of dancing. Everyone learns one line dance and the basic two-step. By the time the band really gets going, your reception looks like an Austin honky-tonk.
4. Bachelorette Line Dancing Party
Separate from your wedding day - book us for the bachelorette weekend to teach the crew a line dance (or two!) at your Airbnb, hotel, or rented venue. Way more fun than another bar crawl. Still has all the boots-and-hats energy.
5. Bridal Party / Groomsmen Lessons
A private group lesson for the wedding party - often paired with the rehearsal dinner. It's half bonding, half getting your people ready to lead the reception dance floor.
We're flexible. We mean it.
Lessons can be 30 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes, or anywhere in between. We've taught wedding groups of 10 and wedding groups of 400. We'll fit inside your timeline - if you've got 25 minutes between the toasts and the cake, we can work with that.
What we need from you:
- An electrical outlet (we bring the sound system)
- A dance floor (or any flat, non-carpeted space with room to move)
- A rough guest count so we can scale our instructor team
That's it. No setup fees, no surprise add-ons, no "oh actually we'll need XYZ."
Dance floor size guide
Wedding planners always ask this, so here's the rule of thumb:
- 50 guests: 12x12 ft dance floor minimum
- 100 guests: 15x15 ft minimum
- 150 guests: 18x18 ft minimum
- 200+ guests: 20x20 ft and up (plan for about 2-3 sq ft per dancing guest)
Honky-tonk rule: err on the side of slightly smaller. A too-big dance floor feels empty. A cozy floor feels like a party.
Fun prop ideas (optional, always a hit)
- Cowboy hats for guests — Instant participation. We source bulk hats if you want to gift them.
- Bandanas in your wedding colors — Beautiful, functional (sweat!), and they photograph like a dream.
- A bucket of boots at the reception entrance — Hand-me-down or thrifted, guests swap heels for boots as they come in.
- A signature Texas cocktail — Ranch water. Tito's and soda. Cowboy margarita. Set the mood.

What our couples say
"Vanessa was such a pleasure to work with! She was easy to communicate with, reliable, and did a great job with our group. I would definitely recommend her and use her again!" — via EVA
"Best antidepressant I've ever tried. Joy on tap." — Instagram DM we framed and put on the wall
"We'd tried two other teachers in the past and they'd failed to resonate with my husband, but Vanessa's teaching style was the breakthrough - enthusiastic but down to earth, knew just when to give positive feedback and when to correct our movement. Learning was easy, well-paced, and fun. She gave us confidence and we left excited for the next lesson."
157 five-star reviews on Google. 47+ five-star reviews on Yelp. 200+ five-star reviews across platforms. Austin Chronicle "Best Two-Stepping Lessons." We're not guessing at this.
Frequently asked questions
How far in advance should I book?
Most couples book 6-12 weeks out for first-dance lessons. For group lessons at rehearsal dinners or receptions, 4-8 weeks is plenty. Peak Austin wedding season (March-June and October-December) fills up fastest, so reach out as early as you can.
What if our guests have never danced before?
Perfect. That's our whole thing. We teach 3-5 simple routines guaranteed to get any beginner dancing and having a good time. No dancer left behind.
Do you teach Texas Two-Step, or that fancy Austin style?
Both. For weddings we usually recommend Texas Two-Step because it's smoother, simpler, and works for all ages and skill levels. If you want the spicier Austin Honky-Tonk Two-Step, we teach that too. Tell us what your vibe is and we'll match.
Can you travel outside Austin?
Yes. We've done weddings in Dripping Springs, Wimberley, Driftwood, Marble Falls, Georgetown, Lampasas, and across the Hill Country. Travel is built into the quote - no hidden fees.
How much does it cost?
First dance packages start around $350. Wedding-weekend group lessons run $500-$1,800 depending on group size and duration. We'll always send you a clear written quote upfront.
What if my guests don't want to dance?
They will. We've done this hundreds of times. The "I don't dance" crowd is exactly who we're best with. We make it impossibly easy. The number one post-wedding review we hear is "I can't believe Uncle Randy was out there the whole night."
Do you bring the music?
Yes. Sound system, playlist, wireless mic, all of it. We can coordinate with your DJ or band too if you have one - lots of wedding DJs love working with us because we prep the crowd for them.
Can you do the lesson AND the reception entertainment?
Yes. Some couples book us for the lesson plus we stay on as "dance captains" through the reception, keeping the floor full. Ask us about it.
Let's talk about your wedding. Email us with your date, venue, group size, and what you're imagining. We respond within 24 hours, usually faster.
