Austin Corporate Team Building Dance Lessons

By Vanessa Vaught, Double or Nothing Two-Step · Austin Chronicle Best Two-Stepping Lessons

Your team building event doesn't have to involve trust falls. Two-step is the Austin-specific, genuinely fun group activity that gets your engineers dancing with your sales team and your VPs laughing with your interns. Plus nobody has to do a "name three things you're grateful for" icebreaker.

Why two-step for corporate events

Corporate team building usually fails for one of two reasons: it's either too forced (awkward icebreakers, trust exercises nobody enjoys) or too passive (dinners, happy hours where the same four people talk to each other). Two-step lands in the middle. Everyone participates. Nobody gets graded. Status hierarchies evaporate when the intern is better at following than the CEO.

And for visiting teams: there is no more "Austin" team activity. Your out-of-town attendees will tell this story for years.

Event types we run for corporate clients

  • Quarterly team offsites — 60-90 minute lesson as part of a larger program
  • SXSW activation events — High-energy kickoffs and wrap parties
  • Conference welcome receptions — Giving attendees an Austin experience their first night in town
  • Holiday parties — Replace the same-as-always corporate holiday format with something memorable
  • Executive retreats — Small, focused lessons at rented venues or private homes
  • All-hands company events — Groups of 100-400+ with multiple instructor teams
  • New-hire onboarding events — Quarterly "welcome class" cohort activities

Typical program structure

60-minute corporate lesson

  • 10 min — Welcome, foundation, frame and count
  • 20 min — Basic step with rotating partners (breaks up cliques)
  • 20 min — A couple of fun moves (spins, turns, dips if the group is into it)
  • 10 min — Free dance party with live DJ or playlist

90-minute lesson (our most popular)

Same as above but with more time for practice, partner rotation, and a longer free-dance finale. This is the sweet spot for groups that want more than just a taste.

Pricing

Corporate events are priced based on group size, location, duration, and number of instructors. Typical ranges:

  • 40-100 attendees, 90 min, 2 instructors: $900-$1,800
