Tips, playlists, and everything you need to feel at home on an Austin dance floor
Austin has live country music and two-stepping every night of the week. The best spots for dancing are Broken Spoke, White Horse, Sagebrush, Sam's Town Point, and Continental Club. Check the schedule above for tonight's bands and set times.
Broken Spoke is Austin's most legendary honky tonk - open since 1964 and a true Texas institution. For East Austin energy, White Horse is a local favorite. Sagebrush on South Congress is great for dancing with multiple stages. Sam's Town Point is beloved for its old-Austin dive bar feel with live music every night.
Double or Nothing Two-Step is Austin's honky-tonk dance school - teaching honky-tonk two-step since 2020. Weekly social lessons at local bars (no partner needed), private lessons, studio workshops, and online courses. Sagebrush every Sunday and Tuesday. See the full lesson schedule →
The restaurant at Broken Spoke is free with live music 6-8pm Tuesday through Saturday. The dancehall opens at 9pm (8pm Tuesdays) and typically charges $10-$15 cash depending on who's playing. Bring cash - the ATM is at the front door.
White Horse typically charges $5 on Wednesdays and Sundays and $10 on Thursdays through Saturdays. Cover is cash only and goes directly to support the artists. Check their calendar for specific show details.
Sagebrush charges $10 cash on Double or Nothing Two-Step lesson nights (Sundays and Tuesdays) which covers both the lesson and the live music after. For larger shows the cover can be $15-$20. Always cash at the door.
Yes - Austin has live music and two-stepping every single night of the week. Weekends are especially lively at Broken Spoke, White Horse, and Sagebrush. Check the schedule above for this weekend's bands and times at all 17 venues.
No partner needed. Austin's honky tonk scene is incredibly welcoming - most venues have a mix of solo dancers, couples, and groups. At Double or Nothing Two-Step lessons, partners are rotated so everyone gets to dance with everyone.
Come as you are - Austin honky tonks are casual and welcoming. Cowboy boots are ideal for the dance floor (leather soles slide better than rubber) but not required. Jeans and a comfortable top work perfectly. Most venues are 21+ so bring your ID.
This guide tracks 17 venues including Broken Spoke, White Horse, Sagebrush, Sam's Town Point, Continental Club, Donn's Depot, Little Longhorn Saloon, Jo's Coffee, ABGB, Guero's, Coupland Dance Hall, Luckenbach, and more across Austin and the surrounding Hill Country.
