01 - North Austin
Mavericks Pflugerville
The north-side Mavericks runs a dedicated Line Dance Tuesday. There's an advanced lesson early at 6:30pm for a small fee, then the beginner lesson around 7pm, and if you show up for that one there's no cover. It's a big modern honky tonk floor, so there's room to spread out and learn.
This is a genuinely beginner-friendly night. Come alone, stand in the back row, and copy the person in front of you. That's the whole method. By the second song you'll have a dance or two down.
02 - South / Buda
Mavericks Buda
Same owners as the Pflugerville room, on the south side. Mavericks Buda puts its line dancing on Wednesday nights. It's the closer option if you're coming from south Austin or Kyle. Bring a few dollars cash for the cover, which varies by night.
Between the two Mavericks locations you can line dance both Tuesday and Wednesday without repeating a room, which makes them the backbone of the weekly Austin line dance calendar.
03 - Cedar Park
Wild West
Wild West in Cedar Park is the high-energy end of the spectrum: a big modern country club with a mechanical bull, DJs, and live music. The line dance lesson runs Thursdays around 6:15pm with dancing after, and there are more lessons Saturday nights. It's a younger, louder crowd than the old dance halls.
If you like your line dancing with a night-out atmosphere rather than a quiet lesson, this is your room. Come early for the lesson so the fast ones don't lose you.
04 - Buda
Buck's Backyard
Buck's Backyard runs weekly line dance lessons every Thursday: an intermediate and advanced lesson at 7:30pm, a beginner lesson at 8:00pm, then open social dancing at 8:30pm. No cover, just drink specials. It's a relaxed, outdoor-leaning spot south of Austin that mixes line dancing with two-step.
The staggered lesson times make this one of the friendliest nights for a true beginner: you can start at the 8:00pm lesson and be dancing by 8:30.
05 - Buda
Progress Coffee + Beer
Progress Coffee + Beer in Buda hosts a weekly line dance night on Tuesdays at 7pm, with lessons and requests and no cover. It's a low-key, coffee-and-beer setting that's easy to walk into solo. Between this and Buck's Backyard on Thursdays, south Austin has two no-cover line dance nights a week.
