What private lessons are right for
Public group lessons at local bars are the best way to get into the Austin dance community - drop-in, social, affordable, followed by live music. But private lessons are better for specific situations:
- Couples who want to learn together and move faster than a group setting allows
- Bachelorette parties and group events where everyone needs to get to the same baseline quickly
- Corporate team-building where the goal is group participation and fun, not advanced technique
- Weddings where the couple wants to learn a first dance or guests want to be ready for the reception
- Anyone who wants to move faster than the group lesson pace and work on specific skills
What Double or Nothing Two-Step offers
Double or Nothing Two-Step - Austin's Honky-Tonk Dance School - offers private and group lessons for all of these situations. We teach Austin honky-tonk two-step, line dancing, and Cajun two-step for groups ranging from two people to several hundred.
We come to you. Your Airbnb, your backyard, your event venue, your corporate space. We bring the music, the instruction, and everything needed to make the lesson work in your space.
No experience required. Private lessons are specifically good for people with no dance background - you get more attention, more repetition, and a pace calibrated to exactly where you are.
Group sizes and formats
Couples (2 people): The fastest format for learning. One hour of focused instruction with a single instructor, rotating through lead and follow. Most couples get the basic pattern and first turns in one session.
Small groups (3-15 people): Bachelorette parties, birthday groups, friend groups. Line dancing works especially well at this size - everyone learns the same choreography together. Two-step partner work is also available for mixed groups.
Large groups (15-100+ people): Corporate events, wedding receptions, company parties. Line dancing scales to any size. We have taught groups of several hundred at corporate events and festivals.
How to book
Contact Double or Nothing Two-Step directly through the booking page at DoubleOrNothingTwoStep.com. Describe your group size, date, and what you are hoping to do - we will respond with availability and pricing.
Book early for weekend dates. Bachelorette party Saturdays book out several weeks in advance, especially in spring and fall. If you have a specific date, reach out as soon as you know it.
After the lesson: where to go dancing
The best private lesson format ends with going out to a live music venue and using what you learned. We can recommend the right venue based on your group size, timing, and experience level - or check the weekly schedule for what is on the night of your lesson.
Donn's Depot on Wednesdays (free cover, Frank Cavitt from 8:30pm) is the ideal follow-up venue for a private lesson earlier in the evening. Sagebrush on Tuesdays and Sundays is ideal for larger groups with more floor space.
